I'm assuming that has to do with whatever they were drinking. And their smell.

Right. What they were drinking contained alcohol of some kind. Drinking too much of it can make one lose ones inhibitions and make one start acting like an idiot.

Huh. I think all of them had too much. Why anyone would purposely make a fool out of themselves is beyond me.

...Or all of them, yes. And you don't really notice you're making a fool out of yourself at the time, some people feel happy while doing it too. If you drink too much, it can end up making you forget things though.
