[Two (slightly bloodied up) boys coming out of the caves after having snuck off at ridiculous o'clock in the morning today -- victorious! They've got themselves a nice little fatty lizard which is floating on home behind them courtesy of some wind magic. Which creates a mini hurricane of wind for anyone nearby when it's released. WHHHOOOOOSH.]

They are insects that eat people. Ah... they're long, with many legs. If you see one you should run, there are probably many more nearby.

Run. They aren't unkillable, but they are fast, and as I said, where there is one there are many. They will swarm and overwhelm you, so the best thing to do is seek shelter.

If you stay close to the dorm area, you likely won't see those kinds of things. It's when you go deeper into the caves that there is a risk.
