[pauses to knock, but after a few seconds of no response, opens the door to an empty room. he crosses over to the bed, picking up a bag in Orion yellow that may be familiar in design, spilling its across the bed.

among the clutter of things, notebook, notes, bandages, jerky, there is the twin to the communicator in Chaz's belt pouch...]

Yeah. Communicators--from Jim's history. Pretty advanced tech. He's supposed to keep one on him so he can call us if he gets in trouble.
