What: Look, some new people!

[There's a person in gray walking around the new buildings. He seems to be scanning the area around the two buildings, getting his bearings perhaps? Though he looks pretty calm and collected.

How many of you have woken up so far?

Three of us. And three on Corvus.

That's only half a team for both of you.

...I know. [N-not really happy since it's clearly a bit disadvantage on top of being all newbies.]

Give it a few days. You'll probably fill up by then, and the next game or two should be easy ones. We just had a really rough one. They don't usually run two bad ones in a row.

How often do they run bad ones?

[. . . shrugs] Often enough. One in every three or four games is usually rough, at least.

And there's already been five or six games in only a few weeks...hopefully that's a really good wish.

That's small scale. From the beginning . . . as far as we've been here, there's been just over ninety games in just under a hundred and fifty days. Sometimes it's two or three games in a single day, sometimes it's one game every few days. It changes depending on the Judges' mood.

That doesn't leave a lot of recovery time for games where people get seriously hurt.

Most Judges can heal you, even bring you back from the dead. I know that Soldier and Flowers aren't able to . . . Soldier's games have always been safe, but the game Flowers ran left a lot of people hurt. You've just got to be careful.

You don't need to tell me. Even I told myself that.

It doesn't hurt to hear it again. We just had to watch a bunch of new guys make mistakes and nearly get themselves killed.

...in Flowers' game?

Yeah . . . The other guy in my color got caught in it. [nods over at Albert] You can't tell from looking at him, but he was . . . in really bad shape for a while.

[Looks over at Albert.] But if it was a few days ago, then...did he go to Sur-ah, that Judge whose name we shouldn't say?

[nods] He made an offer to everyone himself. He probably didn't want to listen to all the teams yelling for him all day, so he gathered everyone to deal it out that way.

Ah. And what did people have to pay?

We don't know yet.

It'll probably be something painful. That Judge . . . He likes to talk about "balance" a lot. And you know what his name is, right? What he'll do to us will be something he thinks is equal to the injuries he took from our teammates.

...that's kind of a warped sense of balance, since it was a Judge who caused the injury.

They're all pretty fucking warped.
