* few homes in the overcrowded capitol have the privilege of private gardens of notable size; those who do tend to belong to the wealthy or renowned, fenced and gated plots where grass and shrubs are tamed with shears. *
* at one of the less ostentatious of these homes-- a two-storey brick affair barely qualified to be a manor-- a young man sixteen years of age lies shaded by an old elm, an open book covering his face. *
